DT Research Task – Vegetable Tart Recipe

For our upcoming DT lessons, you will be making a simple vegetable tart using puff pastry as the base. To get ready, you need to do a bit of research at home.

Your Task:

Find a recipe for a vegetable tart that:

Uses ready-made puff pastry.
Includes seasonal vegetables (e.g. tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, spinach, onions, mushrooms – check what is in season now).
Is simple to make (suitable for children to follow).

Write down or print the recipe including:

The list of ingredients.
Step-by-step instructions.
A picture (if possible) to show what it should look like.

Bring your recipe into school to use in our DT lessons.

Extra challenge (optional):

Find out why seasonal vegetables are better (for the environment, cost, and taste).
Suggest one healthy change you could make to your tart (e.g. less cheese, more vegetables, herbs for flavour instead of extra salt).

Atom is now up and running and your child has been given their log in details this week. Homework will be set on Fridays and all tasks are to be completed by the following Thursday of each week.

2. Spellings EdShed

The children will be set weekly spellings to practise throughout the week. We have also sent home a weekly spelling homework sheet for additional practice, so you can go through the spellings together at home. There are also a number of games for the children to play and earn themselves points, honey pots and so much more.

It is imperative that the children complete their weekly spelling tasks on the EdShed platform.

Each week Mrs Sohal will announce the 'Speller of the Week' and the class with the most points. Please ensure your child is taking part and having fun with their spellings.

Your weekly spellings are listed below. Spelling test will take place on Thursday. The children will no longer be bringing home their spelling books. They will be asked to write their score in their reading record.

3. Maths Support
If you would like to support your child further in Maths, please use the White Rose videos to recap and reinforce the learning we have covered in class this half term. The links to the videos will commence from next week.

4. Handwriting
We are focusing on developing neat letter formation and joined cursive writing. To support this, the children will be bringing home a handwriting practice sheet each week. Please encourage your child to spend some time practising their handwriting on this sheet, as regular practice will help improve both fluency and presentation in their written work.

Please pracitise your multiplications (2 times tables through to 12 timestable). You will need to know these multiplications going forward, backwards and out of order. Please use times tables rock stars to practise. You will need your Purple Mash log in details for this.

5. Reading

Please encourage your child to read every night as regular reading helps to build fluency, confidence, and enjoyment. We have also attached a list of recommended reads for Year 3, should you wish to purchase any additional suitable books for your child. Please also remind your child to change their books weekly once they have completed their AR quiz.

Remember to talk about the book. Some questions for parents to ask.
