Reading 

THE CHILDREN WILL BE GIVEN THEIR READING BOOKS ON MONDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER.

Your child will bring home two books to read:

• One Read Write Inc. (RWI) book – this book has been carefully matched to your child’s current phonics group and the sounds they have been learning in school.
• One additional reading book – this book links closely to the RWI book and gives your child an opportunity to practise and apply their phonics skills.

The second book may feel a little more challenging, and this is completely normal. Please support your child by reading the book together. Encourage them to use their phonics knowledge to sound out unfamiliar words and help them when needed.

Most importantly, please make reading a positive and enjoyable experience. Lots of praise and encouragement will help build your child’s confidence and develop their love of reading.

Children should be reading daily for at least 10 -15 minutes a day.   

Please do discuss the story with your child in order to check their understanding.

What might happen next?

How do you think the character is feeling? Why do you think that?

What happened in the story?

Can you find a word that means the same as ............?

What is the definition of .........?  If you don't know, can you find it in the dictionary?

Did you enjoy the story? Why?

Have you read a different story that has similar themes in to this story?

Remember to refer back to the text when answering the questions.

Reading books will be changed every Monday. Please ensure that your child's books and 'Children's Reading Record' book are in their bag in order for the books to be changed. We have a record of the books that your child has been given.  Please remember to sign it once they have read their books in order for the books to be changed. If the diary is not signed the books will not be changed.

Homework

Handwriting-

Each week, your child will bring home a handwriting sheet to complete. These sheets are designed to reinforce correct letter formation and orientation and help children develop consistent, confident handwriting skills. Please encourage your child to complete the sheet carefully, paying close attention to how each letter is formed and positioned.

It is important that the children know how to write their name correctly using the correct letter formation. Please complete the given sheet using 'look, trace and copy'. On the back of the sheet the children can write their name including their surname. This needs to be handed in by Wednesday 16th September.

PE days

The children need to come into school dressed in their PE kits on the following days:

1R- Tuesday and Thursday

1G- Wednesday and Thursday
